Over the past few years our family has been fortunate to visit many adorable towns and cities around the holiday season. Jamie always saves up a big chunk of vacation time for this time of year and we look to quick trips in our surrounding Northeastern area to visit. Here are my top three places to visit during the holiday season.
Jackson, New Hampshire
Jackson is located just outside of North Conway, New Hampshire, another adorable holiday town. It’s Honeymoon Bridge has been featured in a Hallmark Movie.
Here’s what I’d do on a trip here:
🏨 Stay at The Eagle Mountain House
🛷⛸️ Go on a Sleigh ride and try Ice Skating at Nestlenook Farm
🧩 Buy a Holiday Puzzle from White Mountain Puzzle
☕️ Get a warm Holiday Beverage from Autumn Nomad Cafe
🎄 See Jackson lit up at Night, don’t forget Honeymoon Bridge!
🚊 Take a ride on Santa’s Holiday Express
Quebec City, Canada
Quebec City, located in Quebec Canada is absolutely delightful. In the month before Christmas this town transforms into sparkle city with lights and decorations everywhere. They also host their own German Christmas Markets. It’s so pretty here it almost doesn’t feel real.
Here’s what I’d do on a trip here:
🏨 Stay outside of the city at DoubleTree by Hilton Quebec City
🎄Attend the Quebec City German Christmas Markets
⛸️ Ice Skate at Patinoire de la place D’Youville
☕️ Enjoy a warm holiday beverage from Smith Cafe
🍽️ Eat poutine at Le Chic Shack
🚶♀️Walk around and enjoy all the decorations and lights in Quebec City
Freeport, Maine
Freeport Maine is a fantastic area to visit anytime of the year but the Holiday season really sparkles. Located in a spot in Maine with numerous adventures close by, it’s an excellent home base when exploring the surrounding area. There’s even a train in town to Boston, should you want to add on a day trip there too. During December L.L. Bean hosts their Northern Lights celebration and it is beautiful. Santa, heated benches, and Christmas Lights everywhere are just a few of the things you’ll see this time of year. You can have your picture taken in an actual snow globe. I mean….if that doesn’t scream holiday cheer I don’t know what does.
Here’s what I’d do on a trip here:
🏨 Stay at Hilton Garden Inn which is walking distance to downtown.
🎄Check out LL Bean’s Northern Light Celebration
🍽️ Eat diner at Maine Kitchen and Topside Tavern
🪴Take a drive to Boothbay Harbor to the Gardens Aglow
🚶♀️Walk around adorable Freeport and enjoy the lights and decorations while you do a little holiday shopping.

Amazing pictures! Looks like a storyland. Close by too. A perfect getaway. Thank you!
Thank you! It was such a storyland!
My husband and I have made several trips to Lake Winnipesaukee in NH and really enjoyed it and the surrounding towns. My favorite memory is being along the Kancamagus Highway and watching families from India enjoy the fall leaves. I asked a waitress in a local restaurant why so many people from India were up visiting and she said it’s because the places they come from don’t have mountains where the leaves change color in the fall. Most of them had never seen the fall colors and it was amazing to them. Such a fun area!
Oh wow, that must have been so fun to watch people see the leaves change color for the first time!! I love the kancamagus highway too. Such a beautiful place.
