Favorite Family Fall Activities 2020

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

Anne of Green Gables

It’s FALL! I LOVE fall. The weather, the leaves, the activities are all perfect. I’m happy to say that for the most part Covid has not impacted our annual Fall traditions. Other then having to wear a mask and occasionally needing to make a reservation, instead of just showing up; we have not missed out on some of the fun activities we like to take part in this time of year. Here’s some of the things we’ve been up to this Fall.

Apple Picking

We’ve been apple picking two times this year. We are fortunate to have multiple amazing orchards nearby and it’s such an easy fun thing to do with the kids.

Pumpkin Picking

A fall must do for us. This kids pumpkins are now proudly displayed on our front steps along with our mums. Closer to Halloween we will carve them, giving us another fun activity to do together.

Corn Maze

We’ve been to a corn maze every year since Anika was one. It gets more and more fun with the kids each year.

We could have taken our masks off to take this picture…but this is a much more accurate representation of our current life.

Leaf Peeping

I have a slight obsession we leaves changing color. Even after 38 time of witnessing this magnificent process I am still blown away by it. It isn’t lost on me that not everyone is as lucky to live where we live and can easily watch the process. Leaf Peeping for us could be as simple as taking a walk through our neighborhood, a drive around area towns or a kid friendly fall hike. It’s one of those things I can’t get enough of and thankfully my children feel the same.

Fall Art Projects

We love collecting the leaves we find on walks and there is so many fun art projects to do with them. Anika’s remote learning teacher has provided us with many ideas this fall, along with the local library and of course the internet. We also did some fun stuff with apples this year too. Apple stamping, leaf rubbings, leaf pressing with and without crayons, leaf printing and leaf painting to name a few.

Fall Baking

I am a horrible baker, the worst. My attitude when it comes to cooking is “Why measure? It’ll be fine. Let’s just eyeball it.” This does not translate well to baking. Apple Crisp and pumpkin bread however are two of my specialties. So easy to make even I can do it and the kids love to help.

Our favorite recipe for apple crisp is a simple one from Betty Crocker.

Fall Decorating

We don’t have a lot of fall decorations but what we do have we really love and look forward to seeing again every year.

Fall Books

I love seasonal books. These books are tucked away with the decorations, and much like when I take them out, taking out these books provides so much excitement. And of course we love the library for seasonal books too. Here’s just a few of our fall favorites.

Fall Movies

Every Friday is pizza and a movie night around here and the whole month of October is dedicated to making through all of our Halloween Favorites. These are the top three so far this year.

Please leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you!
