When I wrote the blog post “Decluttering to Make Room for what Really Matters” back in June about my dad’s cancer diagnosis, so many people reached out to offer support and let me know they were praying for my father and our family. I wanted to post an update and share some of our good news.
My dad completed chemotherapy and radiation like a boss and two weeks ago had a surgery that successfully removed the tumor. The whole process was a total miracle and I am grateful that things worked out as they did.
My dad is home from surgery and in the “healing room” as Jake calls it. It’s clean, bright and sunny and ready for my dad to finish this 8 month process. The kids were so excited to put this together for him and without hesitation gave up their playroom so he could have the space. Anika even labeled the clothing bins and put ribbons on the sock balls she made. She also created a bin with “inspirational quotes” he can read each day.
2 weeks ago I sat in waiting room, phone in hand waiting for the surgeon to call. It barely finished a full ring when I answered. It was a long surgery and the surgeon, most likely knowing I’d been waiting for eight hours….no eight months…to hear the outcome of this surgery quickly told me “ we got it all out”. Most beautiful thing she could have ever said in that moment and one I will never forget.
This recovery process is far from over but I know that we are 3/4 of the way through and I am so grateful that the end is near…the end we all hoped and prayed for.
For 8 months we have all been in a bit of a limbo period and it feels good to be done with that waiting. We are all ready to finish this journey strong.
