We recently returned to Peaks-Kenny State Park in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine for a two night family camping trip. This was our third stay at the campground, and it has officially become one of our favorite annual Maine traditions. Hereโs what our stay at site 46 was like, what we loved most, and why we keep coming back.
I originally learned about Peaks-Kenny State Park Campground from Ruby’s on the Road, who dubbed it “The best family campground” in Maine and after three years of visits I have to say I agree.

Highlights of Camping at Peaks-Kenny State Park
Swimming & Snorkeling on Sebec Lake
Swimming and snorkeling on beautiful Sebec Lake. The kids loved using the snorkels we picked up from Amazon last year. Sebec Lake is clear and calm, making it perfect for kids to snorkel close to shore. This was one of the highlights of the trip and something we look forward to every year

Local Eats Near Peaks-Kenny State Park๏ธ

Butterfield’s Homeade Ice Cream
We checked out Butterfield’s Homeade Ice Cream a short drive from Peaks-Kenny campground in Dover-Foxcroft. Jamie told the kids they could order WHATEVER they wanted. Jake took full advantage of this offer and ordered the Peaks-Kenny Sundae. It was HUGE. He was pleased with his decision.

Whittle Bird Coffee and Kitchen
Whittle Bird Coffee and Kitchen is an adorable coffee shop and kitchen. What a little gem this place was. It was so clean and beautifully decorated inside. We tried their homemade pop tarts and focaccia bread cinnamon roll. Both were 10 out of 10.

Campfires, Sโmores & Relaxing at the Campsite
Lots of time was spent just hanging at the campsite by the camp fire. We read, relaxed and of course made smores. Evenings were quiet and peaceful, which is one of the things we appreciate most about Peaks-Kenny compared to busier campgrounds
