Thomas Point Beach Camping Trip

The first weekend in August we headed to Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick Maine for our first and only camping trip of the summer. The campground was relatively quiet for an early August weekend, which was exactly what we were hoping for.

The first night, we set up our tent, made dinner and sat by the fire until bed.

The kids slept amazing in their sleeping bags, such a nice change from last summer’s sleepless and stressful nights with a one year old. They woke up early as usual and we headed over to the playground to check out the retro equipment that was straight out of the 80’s. Tall metal slides, see saws and rainbow metal merry go rounds were just a few of the features this playground had to offer.

Just past the playground Anika stumbled upon a sweet little fairy garden area encouraging kids to come check out the ones created and make one of their own. We of course had to do a bit of both.

After this we decided to head to Freeport for a bit to do a trip to LL Bean. Growing up in Maine I have the best memory of this store. There are many fun things to look at including, the giant boot of course, but other things like the trout pond, animals everywhere, kids area with chalk board and games and the camping section with all of the tents, cots and camp chairs set up.

Anika picked out her backpack for kindergarten which of course, gave me all the feels.

I made a much over due purchase of a new down sleeping bag. We also finally purchased a camping hammock. Both items we’ve been considering for some time now and today was the day.

We left LL Bean and returned to our campsite where we had hotdogs for lunch.

My dad came down to visit us for a few hours and we headed down to the beach area. The tide was in and it was a great spot with young kids. The water was calm and shallow.  We splashed in the water, made a giant hole we put Jake in and found shells to spell out the kids names.

After the beach my dad bought the kids ice cream, from “The Loose Caboose”, a small snack shack Thomas Point Beach has, while Jamie headed out to grab us a pizza for dinner. Dessert before dinner equals vacation.

After dinner my dad headed home and Jacob asked to go bed. He was worn out. We got the kids to sleep and we’re going to sit by the campfire for a bit when an unexpected rainstorm began. If it was going to rain the timing was perfect. It gave us another reason to love our tent. Both us and our stuff stayed completely dry.

The next morning I took the kids down to the beach while Jamie started packing up our stuff. The tide was out and it was a totally different, but still great experience from yesterday. The kids could walk far out and check out shells and tide pools all around them. They also were a huge fan of the mud. Anika looked like she was wearing brown socks.

We played around for awhile and then headed to help the camp clean up process and Anika wanted to play one quick game of pool in the campgrounds rec room.

We had a wonderful first and last camping trip of the summer of 2019 camping season. Camping with the kids was significantly easier this year. Last year the days were fun but the nights were awful. This year, both were amazing. We have already started making plans for next summer’s adventures.

Please leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you!
