In March of 2024 we made a visit to the Lego Discovery Center in Boston. Here’s how our trip went.
After completing a LEGO Homeschool Unit Study with the kids I knew we needed to find something LEGO themed to wrap up the experience. When I found the LEGO Discovery Center Boston online I knew this was it. I’m a country mouse who detests driving in the city, thus unsurprisingly hesitant to make the trip to the LEGO Discovery Center in Boston. Thankfully the drive was uneventful and other drivers were relatively courteous to me. Maybe my Maine license plates gave me some likability?
Parking
The Lego Discovery Center Boston is located right outside of Boston in Somerville. I could best describe it as a fancy outlet mall area. There was a parking garage easily accessible with plenty of spaces a minute walk away.
Tickets
I bought tickets online the morning of our visit that required the selection of a time to arrive at the museum. Once arriving at the museum you can stay as long as you’d like. Since I purchased our tickets online in advance checking in was fast and easy.
Schedule of Events
Many reviews of the LEGO Discovery Center Boston complained of a lack of things to do. There were complaints of their visit only lasting a couple of hours. This was not the case for us. I think this place is purely what you make of it. If you go on a less crowded day and pay attention to the schedule of events there is plenty to do. We easily spent 6+ hours and only left when we did because I wanted to avoid traffic on our way home as much as possible.
Create your own Mini Figure
The first thing we did when arriving at the LEGO Discovery Center Boston was create our own mini figure and take a photo with it. We then used this mini figure in interactive exhibits all around the museum. You do have to return your mini figure when you leave the LEGO Discovery Center.
Virtual Reality Experience
We followed this by riding the Virtual Reality Experience. The employee at the front advised us to do that early in the morning as it can get a longer line. This experience consist of sitting on a chair with a seatbelt while wearing a VR headset. The chair rocks and moves you making you feel like you are on a ride. The kids loved this. I did not. If you get motion sickness this is not the ride for you. This ride requires an additional ticket beyond the basic LEGO Discovery Center Boston ticket.
Kingdom Quest Ride
Next we went on the Kingdom Quest Ride. The first ride on this of many that we took that day. I think we totaled 8 times on this ride. This is a shooter style attraction where you are trying to save the princess. This was super fun for all of us.
Spaceship Build and Scan
After that we tried out the Spaceship Build and Scan. We created our own rocket out of LEGOS then put it on a machine that scans it in the computer and then you use controllers to move your rocket around a giant screen.
LEGO 4D Theater
We played with our rockets for a bit and then went to The Lego 4D theater where we watched two shows.
Both were great and this was included with the price of our ticket.
LEGO Cafe
We ate lunch at the LEGO Cafe a LEGO themed coffee shop area. The menu here is limited. The prices aren’t horrible but there’s just not a lot to choose from and they seemed to be out of a lot of the things that they normally do have the day we visited. We all ended up eating a soft pretzel and chocolate milk for lunch, which the kids were pretty happy about. It was adequate and fueled us enough to go about our day.
Ninjago Scavenger Hunt
After lunch we completed The Ninjago Scavenger hunt. It seems like the LEGO Discovery Center Boston may offer special themes during different time of the year and we when we were there they were focusing on Ninjago. Anika and Jake were each given a free pin after completing the scavenger hunt.
Master Model Builders LEGO Class
We followed this up with attending one of the the Master Model Builders LEGO classes. This was one of our favorite parts of the day and I highly recommend doing it. Make sure to check the schedule as soon as you arrive to see what time the classes are offered and show up early as there are limited spots and they do fill up! This class consisted of a Master Model Builder guiding us in creating a LEGO dragon and teaching us some interesting facts, tips and tricks about the LEGO pieces as we went. We were just coming off of doing our LEGO Homeschool Unit Study so this was perfect for us. Unfortunately you do not get to keep your LEGO build, but we took lots of pictures.
Character Meet and Greet
Now that our brains had been filled with LEGO knowledge we did a quick meet and greet with Llyod, one the of the Ninjago LEGO characters.
Various LEGO Builds
Finally before headed down to the LEGO store we spent some time just observing all the amazing Lego builds around us. Some of them were so well done it was like you couldn’t even tell they were made out of LEGOS.
LEGO Store
We ended our time at the LEGO Discovery Center Boston by each kid designing their own mini figure to take home with them in the LEGO Store.
We give LEGO Discovery Center 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you!
Several of my grandkids just love legos! I’ll have to see if we have a Lego Discovery center here in Philly. Looks like the kids had a blast! Learning like that is so much fun!
