Things that make me smile

Things that made me smile this week…December 2020 edition

Surprise Mail

Our friends surprised us by sending this adorable cookie decorating kit through the mail. It had everything we needed to decorate sugar cookies and they were delicious.

Making the best of the situation

I love how people are refusing to give up celebrating the holidays this year and opting for creative solutions to bring children all the joy. The parks and recreation department in the town next to us put together a free adorable Christmas drive-through event. Safely from our car the kids got to see Santa, have him call out to them by name, get our car decorated, have a family photo taken, get a cookie decorating kit, a hot chocolate kit, and an ornament kit to take home too. The whole thing was so creative and well done.

Die Hard

Jamie suggested we watch this “feel-good romantic Christmas comedy”. But in all seriousness I loved it. I have a thing for underdog stories. One barefoot guy taking on a large group of bad guys definitely falls in this category. I’m adding it to my list of favorite movies and now I’m excited to watch some of the other ones.

Shopaholic at Christmas

I read a lot of self-help books but sometimes it’s nice to take a break and enjoy some light seasonal fiction. This book was just what I was looking for. Also, she references Die Hard in it so it fits pretty nicely into my theme of the week.

“I Keep seeing Bruce Willis crashing through windows, shooting six people at once. Refusing to take no for an answer. Knowing what the right thing to do is and just doing it.”

Family Christmas Radio on Pandora

Our current favorite Pandora radio station.

Anika made this for a school assignment. So cute.

Free Swag from my Aluma Mater

My undergraduate degree came from the University of Maine at Farmington. I cannot recommend this school enough. It is a tiny liberal arts college without the huge price tag that tiny liberal arts colleges often have attached. I was given so many incredible academic opportunities at this school and will forever be grateful for my time spent there. They recently had a virtual alumni weekend. The kids entered a coloring contest and won! They received a gift certificate for the bookstore and picked out these adorable items. The kids were so pleased when they came in the mail. I cannot tell you how much I smile when I see my daughter wearing a sweatshirt from a school that I have such fond memories of. Also, Jake snuggling that beaver is pretty darn cute. Yes, their mascot is the beaver.

Favorite Quote of the Week

“I’d choose you over ice cream.”
